He published his research results in the scientific journal, Pramana. Thepaper opened up an entire new field of study, and is, perhaps, the only treatise publishedin an Indian journal in the last several decades to achieve seminal text status in ascientific discipline. Today, commercial applications of the discovery are becomingviable, and could transform a wide range of technologies, from fast high-resolution lightscanning and xerography to environmental gas sensors, and in the long term, hybridcomputer chips which will enable us to communicate electronically with molecules.Naturally, retirement is the last thing on his mind. "My best work, hopefully,"says he, "will come in the next 20 years."
