The Symptoms

  • Your child confuses Ps and 9s, ps and qs, bs and ds even after the age of six

  • Has a problem copying from the blackboard even though his or her eyesight is fine

  • Often has difficulty remembering what has just been learned

  • Seems lost in space and time—confusing "above" and "below", "right" and "left", "before" and "after", etc

  • Seems bright but is losing grades as he or she goes into higher classes

  • Has difficulty reading the alphabet

  • Has a block or fear of numbers

  • Is well-behaved but cannot concentrate on anything for even a few moments

  • Is extremely fidgety and often can't do anything for even a few minutes

  • Can arrive at the right answer in an arithmetic problem but the logic he or she uses is unusual

  • Understands words but not what they mean when strung together.
