How many cricketers have played just four Tests and become the joint holder of two world records? Brought into the Indian side against England to strengthen the batting at Bangalore in ’76-77, he failed with the bat but took five catches in the first innings to equal the record held by Australia’s Vic Richardson. In the second, he held two more, equalling Greg Chappell’s seven-catch-haul against England in ’74-75. Four Tests, 109 runs and 11 catches later, Singh dropped off the radar. He now is a Wisden manager based in London.
