To whom is your exhibition dedicated?
Our Beautiful Daughters is dedicated to the women of India.
What brought you to India?
India and China will soon become the biggest economic powers. That aside, art, family and love between people is stronger (here). We can learn a lot from Indian women.
How did the concept evolve?
It had to do with emotion and that Indian women, despite suffering, are standing.
Tell us about your new installation.
It is a dedication to the women of India and a message to all women to never forget.
What do you wish for Indian women?
Be yourself and have respect and love for what you are.
How are you reaching out to the masses?
Public venues across Delhi will come together to participate and commit to peace by placing messages on wish trees and messages at Shriram School, Deepalaya, JNU, Apollo Hospitals, Medanta and cultural institutions like the British Council and Japan Foundations.
How does art counter violence and inequalities?
Art is a strong power, which could change the world. Let it be, without having too much doubt of what it can do.
How can artists counter that inequity?
We are seemingly not equal, but we are. The work done by Indian women are helping the world as part of the peace industry.
Is this your first visit to India?
Many years ago, John (Lennon) and I came and stayed at a Sai Baba camp near
Mumbai. It was an incredible experience.
What do you want to take away from Indian performance art?
I am very interested in your creativity and I don’t want to show any work but prefer to
create together. That is healthy.
