All-action Filipino scrapper Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado knows he’s in for a high-paced firefight when he squares off with compatriot Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang in a strawweight MMA rematch of their March 2022 showdown.
The highly anticipated second contest will go down at ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs. Andrade on Prime Video in U.S. primetime this Friday, November 3, airing live from Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
When the two contenders first met, they exchanged strikes at a furious pace for a round and a half before Adiwang suffered a devastating knee injury, which brought a premature end to the fight and sidelined him for 18 months.
Looking back, Miado recalls finding plenty of success with his well-timed counters – a weapon he paired with his 4-inch reach advantage to land repeatedly on “Thunder Kid.”
He told onefc.com to expect more of the same if opportunities present themselves.
“Of course, my counters and my reach are still some of my best weapons, but we will also adjust accordingly as the fight goes on. I really don’t know what Lito’s game plan will be, but I assure you that I’ll be adjusting to whatever Lito wants to do.
“In the first fight, I was really timing that opening each time he came in. That’s one thing that I’m working on – finding those openings and connecting on those shots.”
While each man is perhaps best known for his dynamic striking, both are well-rounded mixed martial artists with elite abilities on the mat, as well.
To that end, Miado is confident no matter how the rematch plays out.
And even though he admits that Adiwang – with eight career knockouts – might hold the raw power advantage, he believes his own all-around skill set is more dangerous:
“I’m ready for him wherever the fight goes. If he wants to strike against me then I’ll be ready. If he wants to take it to the ground, then I’ll have answers for him, too.
“As I’ve said, my range will be my biggest weapon in this fight, and I can say that I hold an edge over him in the grappling department. I believe those are my advantages. The only advantage that he has over me is his power, the power in his hands and his kicks.”
Jeremy Miado Hopes To Get Top-Five Opponent Next
For Jeremy Miado, a second victory over Lito Adiwang would not only close the door on the pair’s rivalry but also move him up the strawweight MMA ranks.
After he beat “Thunder Kid” last year, the 30-year-old produced a highlight-reel stoppage of former ONE World Title challenger Danial Williams but then suffered a submission loss to current #5-ranked contender Mansur Malachiev.
Given his standing in the division, Miado certainly understands the high stakes of his rematch with Adiwang:
“I just really want to be in the top five. This is the perfect chance for me to prove that I deserve to be in the mix of contenders.”
After 11 electrifying fights in ONE, the T-Rex MMA representative is determined to finally assert himself as a legitimate World Title contender – and that begins by erasing any doubts against Adiwang at ONE Fight Night 16.
MIado added:
“Also there are a lot of people saying that I only won because Lito got injured. I really don’t have a problem with it, that’s their opinion. But as for me, I just want to win, get a ranked opponent, move into the top five, and become a World Title challenger.”
