The upcoming series will be Afghanistan cricket team's second tour to the UAE in 2023. In February earlier this year, Rashid Khan-led Afghans clinched the three-match T20I series 2-1 in Abu Dhabi. Last year, Afghanistan and Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) had signed a mutual agreement that sees them play a series of three T20I matches on annual basis. This series is part of the agreement.

UAE will be led by Muhammad Waseem and head into the series on the back a defeat to Nepal in the semis of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier Final. As for the Afghans, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team are high on confidence after their impressive showing in the ODI Cricket World Cup in India.
