Afghanistan, arguably the fastest-rising team in world cricket, are competing in this age-group tournament for the eighth successive time. In the 2018 and 2022 editions, they finished fourth.
New Zealand, the runners up in the second edition (1998), are back in the fold after missing the previous edition. They withdrew from the 2022 U-19 World Cup in the West Indies due to 'quarantine restrictions for minors' on returning home, and were replaced by Scotland.
