England have recalled veteran pacer James Anderson in their playing eleven for the fourth Ashes Test versus Australia on Wednesday, July 19.
Their highest wicket-taker in Test matches, with a tally of 686 scalps at an average of 26, was rested in the previous Test for workload management.
He is reinstated in the team, replacing Ollie Robinson, the second-highest wicket-taker (10) for the home side in the 2023 edition.
The Lancastrian pacer will return to his home venue Old Trafford, where he has a solid record- 37 scalps from 10 Tests.
England have decided to give Moeen Ali a long rope while batting at number three, as the all-rounder was slotted in that position to fill vice-captain Ollie Pope’s void, who’s out of action because of a dislocated shoulder. Batting in that position, the southpaw scored five runs in the second innings of the Leeds Test.
The Ben Stokes-led side is trailing the five-match Ashes series 2-1, and this is the lone change from the winning eleven in the third Test.
England XI, 4th Test, Old Trafford: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Moeen Ali, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Jonny Bairstow (wicketkeeper), Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.
