Virat Kohli said that he's the most competitve player he's played against. Stokes’ knock of 155 runs was not enough as Australia beat England by 43 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match Ashes 2023 series.
The former India skipper took to Twitter to praise Stokes' belligerent innings. The all-rounder scored 155 runs off 214 balls, smashing nine boundaries and as many sixes.
“I wasn’t joking about calling Ben Stokes the most competitive bloke I’ve played against. Innings of the highest quality but Australia is too good at the moment,” Kohli posted on Twitter.
Stokes' innings was cut short by Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood when the former top-edged a short delivery and was caught by wicket-keeper Alex Carey.
Not just Kohli but fellow Ashes rival and Australian talisman Steve Smith too lavished praise on Stokes. In his post-match interview, Smith said, "Ben Stokes is an unbelievable player, a freak, with the things he can pull off."
