Indian batting mainstay Virat Kohli became the fastest in the world to complete 13,000 one-day international (ODI) runs during the Asia Cup Super 4 encounter against Pakistan in Colombo on Monday.
Virat achieved the monumental feat en route his 47th ODI century — overall his 77th — propelling India to 356-2 against the arch-rivals.
The all-format great scored 122 not out, studded with three sixes and nine fours, off just 94 balls, bringing up the milestone ahead of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
While Tendulkar reached the 13,000-run landmark in 321 innings, Virat took only 267 innings to do the same.
Virat also became only the fifth batter ever to surpass the 13,000-run mark after Tendulkar, Australia’s Ricky Ponting (341 innings), Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (363) and Sanath Jayasuriya (416).
Such has been Virat’s dominance in the format that before achieving the feat on Monday, he was also the fastest to reach 8,000 runs (175 innings), 9,000 runs (194 innings), 10,000 runs (205 innings), 11,000 runs (222 innings) as well as 12,000 runs (242 innings) in ODIs.
