As they notched up their 233-run unbroken partnership for the third wicket during the Asia Cup Super 4 clash against Pakistan in Colombo on Monday, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul broke multiple records in the process. (More Cricket News)
The match-winning stand was the highest for any wicket by an Indian pair against Pakistan in one-day internationals (ODIs).
The previous highest was a 231-run second-wicket partnership between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sachin Tendulkar at Sharjah in 1996.
The partnership was also the biggest one ever in Asia Cup history, breaking the previous record of 224 by Nasir Jamshed and Mohammad Hafeez against India in 2012.
While Rahul's unbeaten century marked a splendid comeback for him post a lengthy injury layoff, Virat's sublime knock was his 47th ODI ton, making it a staggering 77 centuries for him overall.
Before he got to the landmark, Virat achieved another feat, in the form of becoming the fastest player in the world to surpass 13,000 runs in ODIs.
He was also the fastest to reach 8,000 runs, 9,000 runs, 10,000 runs, 11,000 runs as well as 12,000 runs in ODIs.
Furthermore, the all-format great seems to have developed a special affinity for the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, where all his last four batting forays have resulted in centuries.
Before his undefeated 122 on Monday, Virat had recorded scores of 110 not out, 131 and 128 not out respectively in his last three outings at the ground.
India would love to see the trend continuing when Virat walks out to bat against Sri Lanka in their Super 4 encounter on Tuesday.
