Glenn Maxwell smashed the fastest century of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and along with David Warner, who hit a second successive ton, helped Australia thrash the Netherlands by 309 runs in Delhi on Wednesday. Maxwell (106 off 44 balls) blew away the Dutch attack to score his century off just 40 balls, while Warner struck 104 off 93 balls after Pat Cummins opted to bat at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. In the process, Maxwell bettered the earlier record of South Africa's Aiden Markram, who had smashed 106 off 49 balls against Sri Lanka at the same ground on October 7. Logan van Beek (4/74) and Bas de Leede (2/115) shared six wickets between them. Chasing the huge total, Netherlands never looked in the hunt as they were dismissed for a paltry 90 in 21 overs. Vikramjit Singh (25) top-scored for the Dutch, while Adam Zampa (4/8) picked up four wickets, while Mitchell Marsh (2/19) scalped two.

- Bas de Leede's spell also provided the 18th occasion of a bowler conceding 100-plus runs in an innings in the World Cup and became the most expensive bowler in the history of the tournament. The previous record was in the name of Rashid Khan of Afghanistan, who had conceded 110 runs against England at Manchester on 18.06.2019.
