It is understood that Agarkar, after being appointed the chairman of selectors, hasn't met the team management in person. His trip will be an opportunity to start planning India's preparation for the World Cup.
"Currently Salil Ankola (selector) is in the West Indies but he will be back after the Test series gets over. Ajit will be joining the team before start of the white ball leg," a BCCI source told PTI.
The selection committee has identified a pool of players for the ODI World Cup. However, Agarkar is also expected to discuss next year's T20 World Cup with Sharma and Virat Kohli.
There is a belief within the team management that younger players need to be given a chance in the T20Is. Sharma and Kohli are in their mid-30s.
Agarkar will also discuss Jasprit Bumrah's availability and fitness status and whether he will be able to travel to Ireland for the three-match T20I series after the West Indies tour. It can be confirmed that the National Cricket Academy's (NCA) Sports Science and Medical Unit is yet to issue an RTP (Return to Play) certificate to the Ahmedabad based speedster.
