Copa Del Rey 2023-24: Getafe, Real Betis Hit Opponents For 12 Goals Each In Huge Wins

Real Betis and Getafe ran their respective opponents ragged by recording massive wins in the Copa del Rey. Both teams scored 12 goals in a comfortable cruise to the next round.

Getafe and Real Betis both scored 12 goals against lower-division clubs in the first round of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday. Getafe routed sixth-tier Tardienta 12-0, with Mason Greenwood scoring a goal in each half and Óscar Rodríguez getting a hat trick. Betis trounced sixth-tier Hernan Cortes 12-1, with Willian José finding the net four times and Rodri Sánchez scoring a hat trick. (More Football News)

Girona, which shares the lead of the Spanish league with Real Madrid, had a much harder time against fourth-tier club San Roque de Lepe, winning 2-1 with a goal by Sávio deep into second-half stoppage time.

Cadiz went to a penalty shootout against fourth-tier side Badalona Futur, prevailing 4-2 after a 0-0 draw. Fifth-place Real Sociedad needed a second-half goal by Carlos Fernández to defeat sixth-tier Buñol.

A total of 41 first-round matches were played throughout Wednesday, a holiday in Spain. 

Sevilla beat sixth-tier Quintanar 3-0, while Athletic Bilbao overcame sixth-tier Rubi 2-1 with a pair of goals by Adu Ares. Mallorca defeated Boiro 4-0, which was the same score for Celta Vigo's win over Turegano. Rayo Vallecano routed Atletico de Lugones 6-0, with Radamel Falcao scoring twice.

The first round is played in single elimination games at the home of the lower-division teams.
