Just when it looked like West Indies would concede a lead, Shamar Joseph combined with wicketkeeper Joshua de Silva to put up a 71-run stand for the last wicket. The entertaining partnership helped West Indies take a 41-run lead. By stumps, England had erased the deficit and taken a lead of 207 runs via half-centuries from Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook, who was at crease at the end of day batting at 71 from just 78 balls.
Earlier on Day 1, West Indies won the toss and inserted England to have a bat. Ollie Pope scored a magnificent hundred, while Ben Duckett, Ben Stokes bagged fifties to take England to 416. Kavem Hodge's maiden century along with half-centuries from Alick Athanaze and Joshua de Silva helped West Indies score 457 and take a 41-run lead.
