Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head stride out for Sunrisers Hyderabad to kick things off, and it’s Abhishek Sharma on strike to face the very first ball. There’s a bit of early buzz in the air, you can feel it already, no settling in, no waiting around.

Mukesh Kumar has the new ball in hand for Delhi Capitals and he’s straight into business, ready to test the surface right away. Oh, this has that feeling, one of those starts where something could happen off the very first over.

Ngidi goes to Abhishek Sharma, and WHACK! FOUR!

Oh, that’s been absolutely nailed! Another slower one from Lungi Ngidi, but this time it’s just too full, just begging to be hit. Abhishek Sharma doesn’t miss a beat, he leans into it and launches a clean lofted drive right over the infield.

That came off the middle like a rocket, straight and elegant, and it races away after one bounce into the ropes. No doubt about that one at all, Abhishek is already looking in the mood here.

Very full and sliding down leg, Abhishek Sharma works it neatly in front of square and pushes hard for two, diving in to make it safely. KL Rahul comes up with a sharp return but can’t collect it cleanly, and that proves costly, a real let-off for SRH’s opener.

Replays show he would’ve been short had the keeper gathered it properly, but Abhishek survives and brings up a well-made half-century, a mix of relief and satisfaction all around.

Axar Patel gets the breakthrough, and Travis Head is gone.

Oh, that’s a big moment in the game! Axar drags it back a touch, quick and flat outside off, and Head goes for the pull. It looks like it’s there for the taking, but he doesn’t quite get the elevation, just doesn’t get enough on it. It flies flat, and Sameer Rizvi is right there at deep mid-wicket, safe hands, no mistake at all.

That partnership that was starting to build? Snapped just like that. Travis Head walks back after a lively 37 off 26, full of intent with a couple of sixes in there, but this time Axar has his number.

And right after the wicket, there’s a strategic break as well, perfect timing for DC to regroup, and SRH will feel that shift in momentum a bit stingingly.

A long hop is all Abhishek Sharma needed as he rocks back and smokes it over deep mid-wicket for a towering six, bringing up his second IPL hundred in style.

The moment is pure emotion as he turns to acknowledge the crowd, soaking in the applause with his family watching on, before being embraced in celebration. A special knock, finished with a statement shot into the stands.

Run-out chaos as Ishan Kishan is caught short at the bowler’s end after backing up too far, with Nitish Rana reacting sharply to a drive back at him, deflecting the ball onto the stumps in one swift motion.

Kishan is stranded well out of his crease and can’t recover in time, gifting DC a crucial breakthrough as the SRH captain walks back after a brisk 25 off 13.

Natarajan goes full again and Klaasen is already waiting for it, oh, that’s pure cheek! A low full-toss and Heinrich Klaasen just stays calm, drops inside the crease, gets low, and whips out a reverse paddle over the fielder at third man. No panic, just pure skill.

The ball races away and SRH bring up 200 in style, runs flying everywhere right now, DC struggling to plug the gaps as Klaasen keeps the momentum rolling.

Ngidi lands it fuller and Klaasen just makes it look effortless, he gets right under it and launches a massive hit over deep extra cover, pure power and timing combined into one brutal strike.

That’s the Klaasen special on display, no fuss at all, just clean hitting sailing into the stands. And he’s continuing to build a strong partnership with Abhishek Sharma, SRH cruising with confidence as the runs keep flowing freely.

Sunrisers Hyderabad post a massive 242/2 in their 20 overs, riding on a breathtaking knock from Abhishek Sharma, who stays unbeaten on 135. It was a brutal batting display from start to finish, with SRH keeping the runs flowing and never letting Delhi Capitals settle into the game.

Chase is on!

Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul walk out to begin the massive pursuit of 243, with Nissanka taking strike first. Dilshan Madushanka has the new ball in hand and he’s ready to fire the first shot in what looks like a huge uphill battle for the Capitals. Big total, big pressure, and the chase starts right now.

Nitish Reddy goes full and just outside off, and KL Rahul makes it look ridiculously easy, just a soft flick of the wrists and it’s sailing away! He picks it up cleanly and whips it over deep mid-wicket, pure timing doing all the damage. That’s disappeared into the stands for a big six, no brute force needed, just classy strokeplay from Rahul.

Madushanka strikes early and it’s a big moment for him, his debut wicket! He goes full and angles it across, Nissanka shuffles across looking to go big again, but this time he doesn’t get it right. He ends up slicing it straight to Liam Livingstone at mid-off, who makes no mistake.

Capitals lose an early wicket in the chase, and Madushanka has his man, a proud moment as he removes his countryman. Nissanka goes for 8 off 6 after that early six.

Sakib Hussain goes to the slower one, but it sits up a bit too short, and Nitish Rana pounces! He gets right under it, opens the face, and slices it beautifully over the cover-point region.

There’s a fielder stationed at deep extra cover, but he’s just a spectator as it clears him comfortably and races away after one bounce. Smart, controlled aggression from Rana, making the most of the width on offer.

Shivang Kumar goes into the wrong ‘un, but it doesn’t matter to Nitish Rana, he’s picked it early and punished it! Rocks back, gets into position quickly, and pulls it cleanly in front of square. The length isn’t there, and Rana makes it count as the ball sails comfortably beyond the ropes. That’s a strong, confident strike under pressure.

Nitish Reddy digs it in short and KL Rahul is quick to react, he gets on top of it and pulls it nicely in front of square. The placement is smart, wide of long-on, and he times it well enough to come back for two comfortably. Steady running, steady pressure building in the chase.

Sakib Hussain goes full and angles it across, and Nitish Rana is in full flow now, he throws his hands at it and slices it beautifully behind square, threading it perfectly between backward point and short third.

No stopping that one as it races away to the fence, and that also brings up his fifty, his first of the season. Started a bit scratchy, but that earlier over has clearly unlocked him, and Rana is looking dangerous now.

Sakib Hussain goes full toss on the pads and KL Rahul will be kicking himself here, he’s completely miscued it! Instead of sending it into the stands, he goes for the big heave and only manages to pick out Abhishek Sharma at deep backward square.

Rahul stands there in disbelief, having thrown it away just as he was shifting gears. A soft dismissal on a gift-wrapped ball, and that crucial partnership is broken. Rahul departs for 37 off 23 with 3 sixes.

Eshan Malinga goes fullish and angles it across, and Nitish Rana goes for the loft down the ground but doesn’t get anywhere near the middle of the bat. The ball just dies in front of Abhishek Sharma at long-on, and he charges in, slides forward, and takes a sharp catch just above the turf.

That’s Abhishek again, second catch of the night, and both set batters gone in back-to-back overs. Rana walks back after a blazing 57 off 30 with 3 sixes and 7 fours. Sunrisers Hyderabad firmly on top now.

Eshan Malinga is on fire, two in two and he’s on a hat-trick! A brilliant good-length delivery holds its line just enough, and David Miller is completely rooted to the crease as he goes into the defence. It catches the inside edge, brushes the back thigh, and crashes into the stumps.

Cleaned up first ball for a golden duck, and the ground erupts in orange as SRH tighten their grip even further.

A few good overs for Delhi Capitals but the runs are not coming at the pace they would want. Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs have found the boundaries and kept the run rate under control. But they will have to get two big overs to even make the match competitive. They don't have much more power hitters to come.

Tristan Stubbs executed two reverse lap shots in desperate attempt to accelerate but played one too many to misexecute one to the hands of the short third man. The pressure of the asking rate was getting to them and it eventually costed him his wicket. Sameer Rizvi and Ashutosh Sharma struggle to keep the asking rate under control as well. Eshan Malinga has been the pick of the SRH bowlers with three wickets.

Harsh Dubey strikes again and it’s another big one for SRH! He goes round the wicket and fires it across the right-hander, but Sameer Rizvi can’t quite get under the big hit, he mistimes the heave and sends it looping towards deep mid-wicket.

Dilshan Madushanka settles under it calmly and completes a safe catch. That’s Dubey’s second wicket, and Rizvi walks back after a handy 41 off 28. SRH keep chipping away at DC’s chase.

Dubey isn’t done yet, he strikes again on the fifth ball, and Lungi Ngidi’s final heave only finds a fielder, sealing the deal. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 242/2 proves far too much as they beat Delhi Capitals by 47 runs (DC 196/9), a commanding all-round performance to start their campaign in emphatic fashion.
