The most arduous of the motorsports events, the Dakar Rally 2024, is nearly here. From January 5, 2024, racers will traverse tough terrain, rocky roads, and uncharted territories between the starting point in Al-'Ula, Saudi Arabia, and Yanbu by the Red Sea, hoping to take home the honours bestowed upon a select few in history. The 2024 iteration will be the 46th edition of the Dakar Rally. Originating in 1979, the motorsport rally race was initially run between Paris, France, and Dakar, Senegal, until political turmoil in Africa forced the competition to shift to South Africa in 2009. The continent held the race for a decade before passing on the responsibility to Saudi Arabia. The Middle-East behemoth has played host to the Dakar Rally each year since 2020.
Registrations for the 2024 event closed on October 20, 2023, followed by scrutineering and vehicle loading. The vehicles landed in Yanbu on January 1, 2024, four days before the Starting Podium and Prologue stage.
The 2024 Dakar Rally will have 12 more stages after the Prologue, including a 48-hour marathon stage. This year's race features 60 per cent new tracks with around 5,000 kilometres in special stages.
