What Is Ballon d'Or Awards?

The Ballon d'Or was created by France Football magazine and has been awarded since 1956. The first-ever winner was Stanley Matthews of Blackpool. The Ballon d'Or is awarded to the footballer who is voted by top journalists from 100 countries in the FIFA rankings.

Each journalist, from one country, picks 10 players in a ranked order with points beside him/her. The player with the most points receives the award.

Difference Between Ballon d'Or and FIFA Best Awards

FIFA had been in association with Ballon d'Or from 2010 right till 2015. However, the respective bodies subsequently ended the partnership with France Football going ahead with Ballon d'Or whereas FIFA reintroducing it's very own 'The Best' awards.
