India captain Harmanpreet Kaur was all praises for the bowlers for their exceptional effort against Bangladesh in the 1st T20I in Mirpur on Sunday.
Opting to field first, India restricted Bangladesh to 114-5 in the allotted 20 overs and chased down the total with 22 balls to spare.
Minnu Mani (1-21), Pooja Vastrakar (1-16) and Shafali Verma (1-18) picked one wicket each as the Bangladeshi batters struggled to combat India's tight bowling.
Veteran spinner Deepti Sharma was pivotal in adding pressure on the opposition batters, conceding only 14 runs in her 4 overs.
"It was a great team effort. The bowlers, especially the young girls, bowled really well. I wanted to see how they are going to bowl in the first six overs, I think both of them understood the conditions very early. Apart from them, Deepti too bowled well. She is an experienced bowler and she showed that today."
Harmanpreet was adjudged Player of the Match for her innings of 54 runs from 35 deliveries. Her unbeaten stint at the crease comprised 6 fours and 2 sixes.
India lost two wickets inside the Powerplay, with Shafali Verma (0) and Jemimah Rodrigues (11) departing early.
The Women in Blue will look to repeat a similar performance in the 2nd T20I on Tuesday.
