Still reeling from a defeat that no one had seen coming, former India international Mohammad Kaif refused to accept that his team had failed to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Kaif, in an interview with Star Sports, reiterated his claim that the India team was, indeed, the best team on paper, and that they, not  Australia, should have won the ODI World Cup. (More Cricket World Cup News)

"I can never accept that the best team has won the World Cup. The Indian team is the best team on paper," said Kaif.

Responding to Kaif, Australia star and World Cup winner David Warner presented his views on the claims, stating that any team needs to perform on the day of reckoning. Warner conveyed the same through his social media channels.

Warner said: "I like MK, issue is it does not matter what’s on paper. At the end of the day you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come."

Australia beat India by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023, to lay claim to their sixth ODI World Cup title. Warner himself walked early, making just seven runs before his untimely departure, before Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne steered Australia over the finish line.
