Uganda had a memorable T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier as they won five games from the possible six. Their top-two finish ensured they will fly out to the West Indies and USA to play at the marquee tournament next year.
This will be Uganda's first-ever appearance in an ICC World Cup event.
In the qualifiers, Uganda overpowered Tanzania in the opening game by eight wickets. However, in their next game, Uganda were beaten fair and square by hosts Namibia thanks to David Wiese's all round performance and suffered a six-wicket loss.
However, their moment of glory came when they defeated Zimbabwe, a Test-playing nation, by five wickets. Despite skipper Sikandar Raza’s 48 runs for his side, Uganda’s bowling effort led by Dinesh Nakrani (3/14), restricted their opponents to 136/7. During the chase, the Cricket Cranes were guided by Riazat Ali Shah (42) and Alpesh Ramjani (40) as Uganda created history with their five wickets victory over Zimbabwe.
On the other hand, Zimbabwe, who suffered losses at the hands of Namibia and Uganda, won't be featuring at the T20 event. The side had featured in the previous edition of the tournament in 2022, where they scripted a famous one-run win over Pakistan.
