Welcome to the Match Blog of Day 2 of the India vs England, 1st Test match played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. England batted first after winning the toss on Day 1 and were restricted to a 246-run total. The Indian spinners dominated the proceedings and scalped eight out of the visitors' 10 wickets. England captain Ben Stokes batted resolutely and played a crucial 70-run knock to take his team's score past the 200-run mark. The Indian openers - Yashasvi Jaiswal in particular - went ballistic against the England bowlers and the 22-year-old was unbeaten on 76 off 70 balls when the umpires called Stumps on Day 1. Shubman Gill is accompanying him at the crease. 5:00 PM: IND - 421/7 (110) - Stumps

Axar Patel showed some fireworks just before the end of the day's play. Tom Hartley bowled fuller deliveries and Patel smashed them for a four, then a six and then again for four runs. Axar Patel is unbeaten on 35 off 62 balls with five 4s and 1 six. Jadeja is playing on 81 not out off 155 balls with seven 4s and two 6s. India have taken a 175-run lead against England with three wickets still in hand.

4:40 PM: India's Lead Reach 150!

Jadeja and Patel added runs patiently and took India's lead to 150 runs. Jadeja is batting in the 70s and Patel is still finding his way to scoring runs. Both batters have looked confident and determined in batting. England bowlers are looking tired and helpless at the moment.

4:05 PM: Jadeja, Patel Take Lead Past 130 Runs

Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are playing every single delivery carefully. Joe Root finished his 22nd over. Mark Wood has bowled only 10 overs so far. Jadeja is taking singles and doubles. Axar is taking his time to settle. India's lead has gone past the 130-run mark and if both batters stood there till the end of today's play, it can go around 200.

3:36 PM: Ashwin Departs After Big Mix-Up!

Ravichandran Ashwin punched the ball to the covers and went for a single but it was brilliantly stopped by the fielder there. Ashwin kept on running but Jadeja denied the single and went back. Both were watching the ball. Jadeja came safely in his crease. Both batters were at the same crease when wicketkeeper Ben Foakes took off the bails. India are seven down. Axar Patel joined Jadeja.

3:25 PM: Root Gets KS Bharat!

Joe Root is bowling better than England's other front-line spinners. He dismissed Srikar Bharat who was looking good and was nearing his half-century. Root trapped him in his spin web and he was found in front of the wickets. The Umpire gave it Out, but Bharat reviewed it and the decision came in Root's favour. Ravichandran Ashwin replaced him at the crease.

2:58 PM: Jadeja Completes 20th Test Fifty!

Ravindra Jadeja and Srikar Bharat started adding runs quickly after the Tea break. Bharat hit two boundaries in two different overs of Rehan Ahmed and accelerated his run rate. Jadeja was given LBW out by the Umpire but he took DRS and the result was overturned. In Joe Root's next over, Jadeja completed his 20th traditional format half-century by taking three runs.

2:15 PM: Tea Break!

Srikar Bharat and Ravindra Jadeja tested the patience of English fielders and bowlers. They kept blocking the balls and took only singles and doubles to score runs. Bharat is unbeaten on 9 off 37 balls without any boundary. Ravindra Jadeja is nearing his yet another home fifty. He was just five runs shy from his sword celebration when the Umpires called for Tea.

1:50 PM: India Cross 300-run Mark!

Srikar Bharat and Ravindra Jadeja are making runs with ease. Bharat is taking his time to settle in and Jadeja is punishing only bad balls. India have a considerable lead and still, five batters are left to bat. Jadeja is making sure that he doesn't throw his wicket while playing a useless shot. After 72 overs, India have a 57-run lead and both settled batters are present at the crease.

1:20 PM: KL Rahul Misses Ton!

KL Rahul lost his wicket while trying to play a big shot. He went for a pull shot after seeing Tom Hartley's delivery but could not generate enough power to make it past the boundaries. Rehan Ahmed took a sharp catch in the deep. Rahul went back in distraught. He was just 14 runs away from his century. Srikar Bharat is the new batter at the crease.

12:58 PM: Rahul, Jadeja Deal In Boundaries!

KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are not giving any chance for the English spinners to settle in. Rahul smashed two fours in Rehan Ahmed's over. Then he went for two sixes in his next over. Jadeja also copied him and hit Root for a boundary, then Ahmed for another boundary. He targeted Leach and hit a massive six in his over. On the very next delivery, Jadea was given out by Umpire but DRS saved him. India lead by 29 runs now.

12:25 PM: Shreyas Iyer Falls!

Shreyas Iyer added just one run in his score after coming from the Lunch break. Rehan Ahmed delivered a wrong-un and he played it in the air at the deep mid-wicket region. Tom Hartley took an easy catch there to send him off. Ravindra Jadeja is the new batter at the crease.

11:30 PM: Lunch Break!

Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul didn't let any more wickets fall in the first session of Day 2. KL Rahul Completed his fifty just before the Lunch break in 72 balls. Iyer also came close to that feat with three fours and a six so far in his innings. He is unbeaten on 34 off 57 balls. KL Rahul is playing on 55 runs off 78 balls.

10:50 PM: Iyer, Rahul Rebuild Innings

KL Rahul hit three boundaries in Mark Wood's over and set the tone of India's batting. Shreyas Iyer also took his time and played a few beautiful shots. Wood and Hartley continued the bowling from different ends and the batsmen played spin and pace equally well. Shreyas hits Hartley for a massive six to open his boundary account.

10:20 PM: Hartley Gets Gill

Tom Hartley got his first wicket in Test cricket and it is of Shubman Gill. It was a flighted delivery and Gill, without reaching the ball played the shot in the air and Ben Duckett at the mid-wicket made no mistake. India lost both of their overnight batters within the first hour of the day. Shreyas Iyer is the new batsman at the crease.

9:58 PM: Rahul Hits Back-To-Back Boundaries

Tom Hartley, who has been very costly so far, continued his over from the other end of Joe Root. KL Rahul hit two boundaries on the first two balls. Rahul again hit Root for a boundary in the following over. Both the batsmen are taking their time to settle their eyes on the pitch.

9:34 PM: Yashasvi Jaiswal Falls!

The opening batter resumed his aggressive style of batting on Day 2 and hit a boundary on the second delivery of Joe Root who came to bowl the first over of the day. Yashasvi fell for the flighted delivery and tried to drive it through covers but got a thick inside edge and Root completed the catch with both hands. KL Rahul replaced him at the crease.
