The India women's team walked into the 1st T20I in Mirpur against Bangladesh after last playing an international match in March during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa.
After putting the hosts into bat first, the Indian spinners used the local conditions to their advantage, restricting them for 114-5 in 20 overs.
Deepti Sharma led the attack by conceding just 14 runs in her quota of four overs, while debutants Anusha Bareddy (0-24) and Minnu Mani (1-21) kept building pressure on the opposition batters.
Shafali Verma, too, was among wickets, getting the wicket of Sobhana Mostary (23) after being stumped by Yastika Bhatia.
Disciplined bowling by the Indian players forced Bangladesh to consume as many as 62 dot balls, with only eight fours and three sixes hit across the innings.
India would have hoped to get off to a positive start, but Verma was dismissed for a duck off the third ball that she faced after being trapped in front of the wicket by Marufa Akter.
Smriti Mandhana used all her experience to hold on to her wicket while keeping the scorecard ticking.
Jemimah Rodrigues looked in good touch, striking two fours, before she was bowled by Sultana Khatun off an inside edge.
Mandhana was then joined by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who paced the innings, striking six fours and two sixes in her match-winning 54* off 35 balls. Bhatia, too, remained unbeaten with a 12-ball 9.
With the victory, India have gone 1-0 up in the 3-match T20I series. The 2nd match will be played at the same venue on July 11.
