Following a historic day in Indian athletics on August 4, India enjoyed another successful day at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Friday. While Bhavina Patel qualified for a para table tennis final, Indian wrestlers dominated the mat in Birmingham. Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Deepak Punai won gold medals while Anshu Malik settled for silver. Then Divya Kakran and Mohit Grewal added two more (bronze) India's wrestling medal tally reaches six on the opening day of the competition. In badminton, PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth won their respective singles matches to enter the quarterfinals. But it was heartbreak for the Indian women’s hockey team. The Savita Punia-led side lost to Australia on penalties in the semis. Sprinter Hima Das also failed to qualify for the women’s 200m final.
