Hello and welcome to the India vs Afghanistan, 1st T20I at Mohali, Afghanistan's Tour of India 2024, Match Blog. As the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup inches closer, India will play Afghanistan in three T20 internationals in what is, at the time of writing, their final T20 bilateral series scheduled for before the summer's mega event. India asked Afghanistan to bat first after winning the toss and due to the Afghan openers' slow run rate, India dominated the game instead of the duo putting up an opening stand of 50 runs in Mohali. Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai added 68 runs for the fourth wicket. Afghanistan posted a respectable total of 158 runs on the board after cameos of Najibullah Zadran and Karim Janat. Mukesh Kumar and Axar Patel took a brace and Shivam Dube also took a wicket. In response, India chased down the target with six wickets and 15 balls remaining. Player of the match, Shivam Dube played a match-winning knock of 60 runs in just 40 balls. With this win, India lead the series 1-0. Catch the highlights of the IND Vs AFG, 1st T20I match here (Match Report | Scorecard)
That's all from our side!
Player Of The Match | Shivam Dube: It was quite chilly. I liked playing on this pitch. There was some pressure, but I had one thing on my mind: I had to play my game. I feel some pressure for the first 2-3 balls, but then I focus on the ball because I know I can hit massive sixes. I had the opportunity to bowl and took advantage of it.
Rohit Sharma | India Captain: It was quite chilly. Now I am Okay. When the ball strikes the tip of the finger, it hurts. In the end, it was all good. Lots of positives; we learned a lot from this game, especially with the ball. Our spinners bowled quite effectively, and the seamers were as effective. These things happen (on the run-out), and you want to be out there scoring runs for the team. Everything won't go your way. I wanted Gill to carry on. Lots of pros. Dube and Jitesh batted brilliantly, as did Tilak, and Rinku is also in fine form. We want to push ourselves in areas where we are a little uncomfortable. We want to ensure that we come out on top.
Ibrahim Zadran | Afghanistan Captain: We fell short by 30-40 runs. Unfortunately, we lost the toss, but the guys fought until the finish. We were attempting to have a strong start in the powerplay. We lost wickets, and one of us had to bat till the 14th or 15th over, which placed us under some strain. In the second inning, there was dew. Gripping proved difficult for the bowlers. We need to improve our fielding; we were a little lazy. We will also strive to enhance our hitting. In bowling, there is no problem.

6:30 PM: Pitch Report
The pitch has a nice tinge of green grass, which will be beneficial for the quicker bowlers at the beginning. However, after some time, the pitch will slide on nicely. The faster bowlers have struggled here, while the spinners have been doing quite well. The surface is not very favourable for the spinners, but they bowl quick deliveries, which gives less time for the decision-making process for the batter. They tend to rush the batter a bit. There is a possibility that there won't be any dew tonight, as there wasn't any last night.
6:10 PM: Weather Report
There is little to no chance of rain. However, dew is another aspect that both teams will have an eye on, and on the eve of the match, there was not much of it. Dew is an unpredictable element, however, and things may change on match day. The chilly conditions could present a challenge to both sides when fielding, in particular.
