Virat Kohli completed his 50th century in ODIs and surpassed Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar during India's ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final win against New Zealand in Mumbai on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma is also not far behind in that category with 31 ODI centuries and is the only batter to have three double centuries in ODIs. He also holds the record for the highest individual score of 264 runs in ODIs.

In the ongoing ODI World Cup, Virat Kohli has made 711 runs which is the highest for any batter in a single ICC event. Indian captain Rohit Sharma has played with an attacking approach in this tournament and has been successful in making 550 runs in 10 innings so far. Both the batters are aware of their assigned duties and have played accordingly throughout the tournament. It is because of Rohit's attacking cricket that puts opponents on the backfoot from where Kohli gets enough time to mend his innings without any extra pressure. It's about complementing each other.

Players in the Indian team are aware of their duties and every player is playing according to that. Be it Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul or Virat Kohli. If India have to win the trophy after 12 years, both the batters need to perform according to their roles in the team.

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg had already commented on the comparison between the two by saying that the duo complement each other. Instead of comparison between the two, people need to see the bigger picture. They both have different roles in the team, hence the comparison is difficult.

Rohit Sharma always considers Virat Kohli a better player than him and the former captain also shares the mutual feelings and claims that his successor is the best player in the Indian side. The respect for each other is high and mutual between the two which they have shown from time to time.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have more than 5000 ODI runs together and it is increasing with every other match. To win India the fourth ICC Cricket World Cup trophy, both batters need to unleash their true side of batting and perform according to their assigned roles in the team just like what they have been doing so far in the tournament.
