Rajasthan Royals bowler Yuzvendra Chahal has gone past former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to become the highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League.
Chahal achieved the distinct feat when he dismissed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Nithsh Rana in Kolkata on Thursday.
Rana was caught at deep backward square by Shimron Hetmyer, thus, becoming his record-breaking 184th IPL wicket. Bravo, the previous record-holder, had claimed 183 wickets in 161 matches of the premier T20 competition.
In the third place is Mumbai Indians leggie Piyush Chawla, who has 174 wickets from 176 wickets to his name, followed by veteran Amit Mishra with 172 wickets in 160 matches on fourth. Chahal's team-mate Ravichandran Ashwin is the fifth-highest wicket-taker with 171 wickets in 196 games.
On Thursday, after winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson put the opposition into bat. RR are currently placed fifth in the IPL standings, in a year where the competition is neck-and-neck, rendering the match a must-win for both teams.
Chahal has previously been a part of Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore teams. He was bought by RR for 6.5 crores at the 2022 mega IPL auction.
