Despite his splendid recent performance in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Rachin had set himself a base price of INR 50 lakh. CSK began the bid and Delhi Capitals soon jumped in, and the bidding crossed the INR 1 crore.
Eventually there was a bidding war between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings for the 24-year-old southpaw, and CSK emerged with the spoils, shelling out under 2 crore for the talented player.

Rachin had emerged as a standout performer at the 2023 ODI World Cup, showcasing his prowess with both bat and ball. The Kiwi all-rounder racked up an impressive 578 runs across 10 games, boasting an average of 64.22, which included three centuries and two half-centuries.
He was New Zealand's leading run-scorer and fourth overall in the tournament. Additionally, Rachin contributed with the ball, taking five crucial wickets with his left-arm spin.
