Sen saved four game points in the second game, which he trailed 16-20, in the final in Calgary on Sunday, before effecting a turnaround.

The Canada Open is Sen's second BWF World Tour title, having already won the India Open trophy in January 2022. Sen is currently 19 in the BWF World Rankings, and had defeated world no 4 Kumlavut Vitidsarn in the Round of 32. On his way to a victory, Sen defeated the tournament's 2nd,4th and 5th seeds.

Sen's confidence grew progressively as he took a commanding win over Japan's Kento Nishimoto in the semis to enter his second Super 500 final. He beat Nishimoto 21-17, 21-14 to enter the final.
