Striker Lalremsiami almost single-handedly secured a 3-0 victory for the Indian women's hockey team against England during the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation - International Tournament in Barcelona on Saturday.
Lalremsiami struck in the 13th, 17th, and 56th minutes of the match. It was India's first win of the tour, having previously drawn against England (1-1) and Spain (2-2). India play Spain on Sunday. Having remained unbeaten thus far, they enter the match as table-toppers.
The game's initial quarter witnessed England taking charge with swift attacks, while India worked on finding their cohesion.
After a splendid move, Neha Goyal attempted to score, but the English defence thwarted her efforts.
However, a few minutes later, India made a breakthrough as Lalremsiami deflected a pass from the midfield from Deep Grace Ekka into the goal. The 13th minute strike gave India much-needed momentum going into the second quarter.
In the 17th minute, Lalremsiami struck again, picking up the ball after a circle penetration and placing it beyond England goalie Sabbie Heesh.
With a comfortable 2-0 lead, India were in a strong position, allowing them to explore different combinations to create scoring opportunities in the circle.
The third quarter turned out to be goalless as England missed some chances to score, while India's solid defense maintained control over the game. The final quarter witnessed an exciting exchange of speedy hockey as both teams pushed hard to change the scoreline. Despite England's desperate efforts to break India's defense, the Indian strikers coordinated well and further extended the lead.
In the 56th minute, Lalremsiami once again showcased her brilliance, securing her hat-trick and sealing the match for India.
