After suffering a humiliating 63-run defeat in the series opener, West Indies produced a much-improved performance but still found themselves nine runs short as Pakistan registered their 19th T20 International win of 2021 on Tuesday. Windies were on course for their first win against Pakistan since 2017, but a magical 17th over from Shaheen Afridi proved the difference between the two sides.

Chasing a 173-run target, Romario Shepherd (35 not out off 19) kept the Windies hopes alive after a brilliant 67 from Brandon King. But the visitors eventually failed to counter Pakistani pacers. And they were dismissed for 163 in the final over at National Stadium, Karachi. Pakistan, thanks to the nine-run win, have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Afridi returned with figures of 3/26, while Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Haris Rauf got a couple each. But Shadab Khan won the player of the match award for his 28 not out off 12 and 0/22. Earlier, Babar Azam won the toss and Pakistan opted to bat first. Mohammad Rizwan, Haider Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed hit 30s to help the World Cup semi-finalists post a total of 172/8. Odean Smith got a brace for 24 runs in his three overs.

The third and final T20 is scheduled for Thursday (December 16) at the same venue. After that, the two will play a three-match ODI series, also in Karachi. Catch highlights and cricket scores of the 2nd PAK vs WI T20 match here:

Preview

After New Zealand's sensational pull-out and the subsequent abandonment by England, Pakistan finally get their share of international cricket with a depleted West Indies squad arriving for a limited-overs series. The series opener on Monday, as expected, witnessed Pakistan dominating the visitors. A 63-run win killed any sense of competition between two teams with contrasting fortunes.

Pakistan, with the win, became the first team to win 18 matches in a calendar year, breaking their own record of 17 wins in 2018. They started the year with a three-run win against South Africa. And tonight, Babar Azam & Co will play their 28th T20I match of 2021. With one more match coming up before the end of the year, they can make it 20.

West Indies, on the other hand, have played 23 matches in 2021, winning nine and losing 11. Three ended as no results, all against Pakistan. And they will start underdogs against Pakistan tonight.
