By netting the opener in Manchester City's Premier League 2023-24 duel against Liverpool, Erling Haaland became the fastest player to reach 50 goals in the competition's history. The Norwegian sensation hit his 50th in just his 48th game, beating the long-standing record of Manchester United great Andy Cole, who had set the original milestone in his 65th league game. Haaland's goal came about after a costly error from Liverpool custodian Alisson Becker. The goalkeeper's mis-hit goal-kick was latched quickly onto by Manchester City players, before left-back Nathan Ake released Haaland - who was doubtful to partake in the match initially - into space, who slotted the ball comfortably into the corner before wheeling away in wild celebrations with his teammates and fans.
Though quickest, Haaland is not the youngest player to reach 50 goals in Premier League history. That record belongs to Liverpool great Robbie Fowler, who hit the half-century in just his third season as a senior professional player.
Haaland joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022 before scoring 52 goals across all competitions in his first 53 games. Courtesy of their prolific hitman, City completed a historic treble in 2022-23, winning the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, and the FA Cup.
