The 2019 ODI World Cup runners-up New Zealand kept their caravan rolling with their third consecutive win in the tournament. They first put up a disciplined bowling performance, led by Lockie Ferguson who scalped three wickets, to restrict Bangladesh to 245. The Kiwis then batted with caution and aggresison combined to romp home with eight wickets to spare. Daryl Mitchell scored a quickfire 67-ball 89 and captain Kane Williamson scored 78 before retiring hurt. Though they continue to head the points table after the victory, Williamson's injury status will be the primary concern right now for New Zealand. As for Bangladesh, who faced their second loss in three games, they need to go back to the drawing board and figure things out ahead of their next match against hosts India on October 19. 9:45pm: NZ Win!
They needed just 17 more balls to polish off the remaining 25 runs. Daryl Mitchell finishes things off with a six and stays unbeaten on 89 off just 67 balls. This was as clinical as it gets from the Kiwis.
9:25pm: NZ 221/2 - Overs 31-40 Highlights
NZ are almost there. They just need 25 more runs in the last 10 overs, with eight wickets in hand. Kane Williamson had to retire hurt while batting on 78, walking back for what was possibly his thumb issue resurfacing. The match is almost in the bag, but NZ would be worried about their skipper's fitness heading into the latter stage of the World Cup.
8:36pm: NZ 146/2 - Overs 21-30 Highlights
NZ strengthen their hold on the match. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan raised his team's hopes by sending back Conway in the 21st over, but Williamson has kept his head down and continued to graft, compiling yet another ODI half-century along the way. On the other end, Daryl Mitchell has walked in and got to 24 off 21 already. Bangladesh need a couple of quick wickets, including Williamson's scalp, to claw their way back in the contest.
7:50pm: NZ 92/1 - Overs 11-20 Highlights
Warning signs for Bangladesh as Conway and Williamson are rebuilding the innings and have added 55 runs in the last 10 overs to push up the run rate too. The partnership is now worth 80 and must be broken immediately if the Bangla Tigers are to harbour any hopes of an upset here.
7:05pm: NZ 37/1 - Overs 1-10 Highlights
Bangladesh are taking the fight to the strong New Zealand batting line-up. Mustafizur dismissed Rachin in the third over after asking questions outside off stump. Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed have kept up the good work from the other end with their disciplined line and length, and the run rate has stayed below 4. NZ skipper and batting lynchpin Kane Williamson is in the middle alongside Conway, and the duo are looking to build a partnership.
6:16pm: 2nd Innings Begins
NZ openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, and Bangladesh's strike pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman has the ball. Starts off with just the one slip. A tidy first over from the 'Fizz', as he sticks to a good length in the channel outside off and gives away just one run.

Before that, Matt Henry bowled Mushfiqur Rahim and shattered the hopes of scoring a big total for Bangladesh. Mahmudullah and Taskin Ahmed at the crease.
4:20 pm: BAN 152/5 - Overs 21-30 Highlights
Shakib and Rahim showed maturity and added crucial runs in between overs. They respected the good balls and also punished the bad balls. The maturity is shown by both players. They played run-a-ball cricket and also took the aerial route when required. Shakib hit two sixes in consecutive overs and went back to the pavilion trying to hit another. Towhid Hridoy Joins Mushfiqur Rahim, who has played brilliantly so far and gave good support to Shakib. Now Bangladesh will eye for a respectable total from here. New Zealand bowlers have done well so far.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was looking in good touch but got out on Lockie Ferguson's bowling and gave a catch to Matt Henry at the score of 30(46) with four boundaries. Najmul Hossain Shanto also joined Miraz when New Zealand introduced spin bowler Glenn Phillips. Phillipps got Shanto out on the very first ball as Conway took a diving catch. Veterans Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim took the game for Bangladesh from there and targeted Glenn Phillips in his next over and collected 15 runs from the over with one six and one four. Santner bowled 17th over maiden. Bangla batters also took their time to set their eyes on the pitch.

New Zealand (Playing XI): Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson(c), Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(w), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult
1:20 pm: What to expect
The temperature feels like 38 degrees. It might be a typical start to the game, with fans hiding in the shadows and making the stadium appear empty. However, as has been the case in the past, anticipate fans to increase in the evening for what might be a close race.
Spinners have taken 17 wickets at an average of 24.88 and an economy rate of 4.50 in this year's two ODIs at Chepauk.
The groundmen have prepared Pitch No. 4, which is a blend of black and red dirt, for this game. It was watered and rolled several times before the game, so don't anticipate the top surface to give way as quickly as it did in the India-Australia game. This pitch may be firmer and tougher, allowing hitters to play their strokes and spinners to turn the ball.
1pm: Preview
New Zealand have been very impressive with their performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 so far. They won the opener against England in Ahmedabad very comfortably after Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway made beautiful tons. In their second match against the Netherlands, New Zealand registered a big 99-run victory. New Zealand's next match is against Bangladesh on Friday at Chennai. Bangladesh started their World Cup campaign with a 6-wicket win against Afghanistan in Dharamsala but lost to the defending champions England in the next match by 137 runs. Both the New Zealand and Bangladesh teams have good bowling attacks and world-class spinners. Chennai wicket will suit spin bowling and it will be interesting to see which team will come at the top. New Zealand full-time captain Kane Williamson and veteran Tim Southee are available for selection after recovering from injuries. Team combination will also be a thing to look at in Chennai.
