India have sent their largest contingent ever comprising 117 athletes for the Paris Olympics 2024 starting on Friday, 26 July 2024. It is going to be India's 26th Olympics appearance and expectations are very high. (More Sports News)
Out of those 117 athletes, 72 are going to make their Olympic debut over the next two weeks in Paris. Athletes from different parts of the country are going to compete in 16 various sports and represent the Indian tricolour in Paris.
The youngest among the Indian contingent is a 14-year-old swimmer, Dhinidhi Desinghu whereas the oldest player is none other than Indian tennis stalwart Rohan Bopanna (44), who will be competing in the men's doubles category with N Sriram Balaji.
The northern state of Haryana has the biggest representation with 24 athletes followed by Punjab (19) and Tamil Nadu (13). Other states include Karnataka (7), Uttar Pradesh (7), Kerala (6), Maharashtra (5), Delhi (4), Andhra Pradesh (4), Telangana (4), Uttarakhand (4), West Bengal (3), Madhya Pradesh (2), Manipur (2), Odisha (2), Rajasthan (2), Gujarat (2), Chandigarh (2), Bihar (1), Assam (1), Sikkim (1), Jharkhand (1) and Goa (1).

India have won 35 medals including 10 gold, nine silver and 16 bronze in the Olympics so far. In the last Olympic at Tokyo, India managed to bag seven medals including their first-ever athletic gold with Neeraj Chopra winning it in the Javelin throw event.
Indian men's national hockey team ended the medal drought with a bronze after 41 years. Wrestlers Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia won silver and bronze respectively. Mirabai Chanu won a silver in Weightlifting whereas Boxer Lovlina Borgohain and ace shuttler PV Sindhu settled with bronze. Now, India eye for a double-digit medal count in this Olympics.
