A disconsolate Nisha Dahiya lost her quarter-final bout in the most unfortunate manner possible in sport, in agony with what seemed like a dislocated elbow or shoulder. The Indian wrestler was leading 8-1 but the injury rendered her helpless, as her North Korean opponent Sol Gum Pak took toll to turn it around to 10-8 in the dying seconds at the Paris Olympics women's freestyle 68kg event. With just around 90 seconds left, Nisha sustained a serious injury on her right hand, which left her in evident pain.

After a medical break, Nisha did not seem to have any strength left in her right hand and the North Korean took full advantage, showing her ruthless streak to get a leg-hold and nine consecutive points.

With 10 seconds left in the bout, the scoreline was 8-8 but the Haryana woman could not avert a couple of more points in the last few moments.

Nisha could have a shot at repechage if her North Korean opponent reaches the final, but it remains to be seen whether the Indian will be in a position to even take the mat after the injury.

Earlier, the 25-year-old Nisha had won her opening bout against Ukraine's Sova Rizhko 6-4 as the wrestling competition began at the Paris Games.

Nisha, India's only entry in the heavyweight category, is an Asian Championships silver medallist and trumped her opponent from Ukraine without much trouble.
