Few players sparkle on debut as Amanjot Kaur did. The hard-hitting right-handed batter smashed a 30-ball 41 to guide India home for a famous win against South Africa in her very first game in India colours in January 2023. She displayed a calm attitude after walking in in a tricky situation in the lower-middle order, and ended up with the highest individual score by an Indian woman batting at number 7 or below. Outlook India has joined hands with Oriflame in highlighting the lesser-told stories of sporting triumph amid adversity, via the 'Pitching Glory' initiative. Amanjot is the last, but most certainly not the least, in a series of players that have featured in the initiative. You can watch the video describing Amanjot's exploits so far below.
The 23-year-old Amanjot is the daughter of a carpenter, and is still raw at the highest level. But she has made her mark there already, thanks in part to a move she chose to make four years ago. Yearning for more challenges and competition, Amanjot returned to the Punjab senior team after she had switched to Chandigarh in 2019-20, and immediately benefited from the decision.
In addition to her prowess with the bat, the 23-year-old Amanjot also bowls medium pace, which makes her a priceless commodity in Indian cricket and also endears her to T20 franchises. Her strong performances have resulted not only in a maiden India call-up this year, but also a Women's Premier League contract with the Mumbai Indians.
