The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is gearing up for its ninth season, which is tentatively scheduled from 8 February to 24 March 2024. Before the action on the field begins, the league will host its player draft at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on 13 December 2023. (Cricket News)
The pick order for the player draft was formalized in November, with Quetta Gladiators set to make the first pick of the draft. The selection order for the first round of the Platinum category was determined by the inverse order of the previous season’s standings. This means that Karachi Kings will make the second pick, followed by Islamabad United, then Peshawar Zalmi, then Multan Sultans and finally the Lahore Qalandars.

Media reports suggest that as many as 254 foreign players have registered for PSL 9, which is a new record for the league. Among other notable names, South Africa left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman and wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz have signed up for the draft.
The process of local player category renewals was completed on 10 November, with categories upgraded for nine players. The registration window for foreign players was opened on 25 October. The trade and retention window is currently open.
Karachi Kings earlier traded Imad Wasim to Islamabad United for Hasan Ali and received Islamabad United’s first round silver pick in exchange for their second silver pick.
