The arch rivals in men's gymnastics events, China and Japan locked horns for another tight finish at the Olympics.

The two-time Olympic medallist Indian shuttler PV Sindhu kicked off her Paris Olympics 2024 campaign with a victory in straight games over Maldives' Fathimath Abdul Razzaq in the women's singles group stage match today.

Sindhu, in her third back-to-back appearance in Olympics, finished her first match of the Games in only 29 minutes to dispatch her lower-ranked opponent 21-9 21-6 in the Group M fixture.

The Australian cyclist Lucas Plapp had to undergo abdominal surgery overnight at a Paris hospital following a hard crash on rain-slicked roads during the Olympic time trial on Saturday, the Australian team said.
