A fantastic batting display from Yashasvi Jaiswal at the start and Shimron Hetmyer’s power-packed brief innings at the end helped Rajasthan Royals arrest their two-game losing streak and beat Punjab Kings by six wickets in an IPL 2022 game at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. RR’s win also eliminated Mumbai Indians – the first team to be knocked out of IPL 2022 playoff contention. Batting first, Jonny Bairstow’s maiden IPL 2022 fifty and a late surge by Jitesh Sharma took Punjab Kings to 189/5 in 20 overs. In reply, young Yashasvi Jaiswal, who returned back to playing XI, gave RR a perfect start and set the tone for the former champions. The youngster played some brilliant shots, some innovative as he kept RR in the chase throughout. However, Jaiswal was finally dismissed for a career-best 41-ball 68 with RR still needing 50 runs in the last six overs. But Devdutt Padikkal and Shimron Hetmyer ensured RR reach the target with ease. The win took RR to third with 14 points from 11 games. PBKS stay at sixth. Get highlights of PBKS vs RR.
