It was purely a one-sided affair from Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium against Gujarat Titans. After restricting Gujarat Titans to 168/5, courtesy of a fifty from captain Hardik Pandya, it was the turn of the big man to rise to the occasion. Chasing more than eight runs per over, Virat Kohli was at his vintage best as he ripped apart the opposition bowlers with ease and utmost timing. Kohli laid the platform with a brilliant 115-run opening wicket stand with Faf du Plessis before sharing another 31-run stand with Glenn Maxwell to put RCB on top. Maxwell then hit an 18-ball 40 to win the game by eight wickets and eliminate Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings from the IPL 2022 playoffs contention. Kohli’s 54-ball 73 was laced with eight fours and two sixes. With this win, RCB rise to the fourth spot with 16 points but with a negative net run rate. Rajasthan Royals are third and are all but qualified for the playoffs. RCB’s fate hangs on the result of the match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on May 21. If DC win, RCB are out but if DC lose, then the NRR will come into play about who takes the final playoffs spot. Get highlights of RCB vs GT here.
