South Africa registered a remarkable seven-wicket victory over India in the third and final Test of the series at Newlands, Cape Town on Friday (January 14), sealing the series 2-1.

The Proteas, who lost the first Test in Centurion, made a remarkable comeback in the series, beating India by the same margin in the second match in Johannesburg as well.

** South Africa have never lost a Test series to India at home in 29 years. They have won seven and drawn one in eight series played against India at home. The only drawn series was played in 2010-11. Both teams have won one Test each and the third one was a draw in the three-Test series.

** India lost the series 1-2 despite winning the first Test match. It was the fourth time India have lost the series after taking the 1-0 lead. The other occasions were, against England in India in 1984-85, against South Africa in South Africa in 2006-07, and against England in India 2012-13.

** Keegan Petersen became the ninth South African batter on 12 occasions to make two 50 plus scores in a Test match. The right-handed batter made 82 off 113 balls with 10 fours in South African second innings after scoring 72 off 166 balls with nine fours in the first innings. Hashim Amla achieved this feat thrice while Jacques Kallis made two 50 plus scores in a Test match twice.

** Keegan Petersen received his maiden player of the match award in the fifth Test match. He also won the maiden player of the series award in the second series.
