The Indian cricket team has a few busy months ahead with the West Indies tour starting from July 12, followed by the Asia Cup in September and later, the ODI World Cup in October.

In the midst of the competition to find a place in the national squad, there are some players, who are victims of injuries and rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

The Indian team management has its hands full ensuring the top players emerge fit in time in hopes of featuring in the World Cup. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Jassprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been out of action for some time.

Rishabh Pant, who suffered a horrific road accident in late December last year, has shown tremendous progress, but his chances of making the team are next to nothing, as there is a lot of ground that needs to be covered in terms of fitness.

Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul, too, have shared their progress updates through social media posts and might find themselves in contention for the showpiece tournament.

For Shreya Iyer, however, the recovery progress has been rather slow as per a top BCCI official, who also revealed that the 28-year-old will miss the World Cup due to the injury sustained on his back. Iyer was ruled out of the 4th India vs. Australia Test earlier this year, and since then, has been out of action.

“Iyer’s progress is slow, but we are hoping that he recovers in time for the World Cup. At the present moment, it is not a certainty with Iyer,” the BCCI official said in an interview.

The official also said that Rahul might feature in the Asia Cup team, whereas Bumrah might return for India's tour of Ireland.
