Dhoni will start practising for the upcoming edition of the IPL from Tuesday, franchise CEO Kashi Vishwanathan had confirmed last week. But the training camp will commence only after March 19.
IPL 2020 will start on March 29 with a mouth-watering match between CSK and defending champions Mumbai Indians.
Dhoni, 38, last played competitive cricket during the 2019 World Cup.
Dhoni had to face criticism for his slow batting approach during India's matches in the tournament. He then lost the BCCI contract.
Meanwhile, India lost the Test series in New Zealand 0-2. The Kiwis defeated India by seven wickets in the second Test on Monday at Christchurch.
