Chris Morris became the most expensive buy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history with Rajasthan Royals shelling out Rs 16.25 crore for the South Africa all-rounder. New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell were other big buys at the IPL 2021 player auction.

Each team has a salary cap of Rs 85 crore but for the mini-auction, they had limited purse to buy players. Punjab Kings, previously known as Kings XI Punjab, had the maximum available salary cap of Rs 53.20 crore prior to the beginning of Thursday's auction, followed by Rajasthan Royals (Rs 37.85 crore) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rs 35.40 crore).

The cap available for other teams were: Delhi Capitals - Rs 13.40 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders -  Rs 10.75 crore, Mumbai Indians  - Rs 15.35 crore and Sunrisers Hyderabad - Rs 10.75 crore.

The 14th edition of the IPL is scheduled to begin in April and run into May. Last year's delayed tournament was staged in the United Arab Emirates due to the coronavirus pandemic.
