Shardul Thakur did a Mohammed Shami to force another Super Over as India fought back from the brink of defeat in the fourth T20I against New Zealand at Wellington on Friday.
Thakur had Ross Taylor and Daryl Mitchell caught off first and fifth balls, then Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner were run-out off the fourth and last ball. He conceded just six runs, despite Mitchell hitting the second ball for a four.
Watch the final over here:
Two days ago, India played their first-ever Super Over match and won it, courtesy Rohit Sharma's sixes after Shami's brilliant last over during normal play.
Chasing 166, New Zealand were coasting at one stage before the hosts committed harakiri to be restricted to 165 for 7. Needing 7 runs of Shardul Thakur's last over, New Zealand buckled under pressure and lost two wickets as India took the match into the Super Over for the second consecutive game.
In the Super Over, New Zealand made just 13 runs. India chased down 14 with skipper Virat Kohli hitting the winning runs, a four off the fifth ball, bowled by rival captain Tim Southee.
Thus, India have taken a 4-0 lead.
Brief Score:
India: 165 for 8 in 20 overs (Manish Pandey 50; Ish Sodhi 3/26).
New Zealand: 165 for 7 in 20 overs (Colin Munro 64, Tim Seifert 57; Shardul Thakur 2/33).
By the way, the Kiwis have lost seven Super Over finishes, including one in ODIs -- that nerve-wracking World Cup final. Their only won came against Australia at Christchurch in 2010.
