Pathum Nissanka's unbeaten 210 in the first ODI helped Sri Lanka post 381/3 in 50 overs. Nissanka's feat meant he wiped out Sanath Jayasuriya's 24-year old record for the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan batter and also became his country's first-ever double centurion in ODIs in the 1st ODI.

Despite hundreds from Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai, their 242-run stand for the 6th wicket wasn't enough as Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by 42 runs in the first ODI.
