Sri Lanka and Afghanistan's men's cricket teams are currently locking horns in a warm-up match at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati before the 2023 ODI World Cup gets underway. However, another bunch of men's cricketers of these two countries are set to battle it out tomorrow (Wednesday, October 4) in Hangzhou, China. The clashing of the 50-over World Cup and Asian Games 2023 meant that Asian cricket giants India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan sent second-string sides to the Asiad. These sides feature young, talented players eager to make a mark and represent their country at the prestigious multi-sport event. (ScorecardFull Coverage | Cricket News)

By virtue of their higher ICC rankings, the five Asian giants have been given direct entry into the quarterfinals of the 2023 Asian Games. While India and Pakistan faced Nepal and Hong Kong, respectively, in the first and second quarterfinals, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will take on each other in what is tipped to be an explosive contest.

At the Asia Cup in August, Sri Lanka had beaten Afghanistan by just two runs in a match that ruled the latter out of the tournament. Hence, Afghanistan will seek revenge in the quarter-final to be played at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou. The set of players will be entirely different from the ones who contested the Asia Cup game, but one can expect the youngsters to inhabit the same spirit as the first-choice team.
