Zimbabwe will take on hosts Sri Lanka in the second match of the three-game ODI series on Monday at R Premadas Stadium in Colombo. After the first match was washed out in the rain, the remaining two matches will decide the winner of the series. (Scorecard | More Cricket News)
Charith Asalanka hit a dashing century in the rain-effected first match. After winning the toss, newly appointed full-time ODI captain Kusal Mendis opted to bat first. With the help of Charith Asalanka's fighting 101 runs in 95 balls, Sri Lanka set a 274-run target for Zimbabwe. Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava and debutant Faraz Akram took a brace, while Sikandar Raza dismissed Maheesh Theekshana.
In response, Zimbabwe were shocked by Dilshan Madushanka's opening fiery spell. Madushanka took two wickets in two overs and both overs were maiden. Rain interrupted the play after the final delivery of the fourth over on the score of 12/2.
Zimbabwe were unable to qualify for last year's ODI World Cup and Sri Lanka had to play the qualifiers to appear in the multi-nation tournament. However, the upcoming match will decide which team will take the inevitable lead in the series.
Head-to-head Record
Zimbabwe have played Sri Lanka on 62 occasions in ODI cricket. Sri Lanka have an edge over Zimbabwe, winning 47 matches out of 62 whereas the African nation won only 12 times. Three matches including the first ODI of the ongoing series ended without result.
