Steve Smith brought up his 32nd Test hundred to equal former Australia captain Steve Waugh's century record. The only Australian cricketer who has more Test centuries than Smith is Ricky Ponting (41).
England may have revisited the horror of Smith's carnage from the 2019 Ashes series, as the 33-year-old batter brought up his milestone in the early stages of the second day of the 2nd Ashes Test at Lord's.
Smith was batting on 85 after the end of Day 1 alongside wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
Resuming a fresh day's play, Smith struck a flurry of boundaries as the hosts introduced the new ball, including one of James Anderson's ball to reach the landmark. The batter, then, raised his arms aloft and kissed the badge of his helmet.
Smith, playing his 99th Test, is the fastest batter to reach 32 centuries in 174 innings. He also become one of the few batting greats to have their names etched onto the Home of Cricket's batting honours board more than once. He joins Warren Bardsley (1912, 1926), Sir Don Bradman (1930, 1938) and Bill Brown (1934, 1938).
Smith's 32nd Test hundred becomes even more special owing to the fact that he debuted at the Lord's against Pakistan in 2010 and also smashed 215 in the Lord's Test in 2019.
