The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) had conceived the WTT (World Table Tennis) series back in 2019. It is the one-stop shop for every top-flight TT event, and includes a multitude of events throughout the year.
While the four Grand Smashes stand out as the highest-ranked tournaments, the Star Contender series is next in line. There are six Star Contender events in a calendar year where only the top-30 players are allowed to participate. Furthermore, six players from the top 20 in the ITTF world rankings must take part.
This time around, world number 5 Hugo Calderano from Brazil is the top-ranked singles player on display. Speaking of the Indian interest, Manika Batra and Harmeet Desai will lead the Indian challenge in singles, while Manika and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran will join forces in the mixed doubles category. The Hangzhou Asian Games bronze-winning duo of Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee will compete in women's doubles.
